America’s Heartland
This summer, I went with Nike on an internal research project throughout Southern America. We asked high school student athletes what the culture of sport was like in their state, and what they thought of Nike.
First, we went to Phenix City, Alabama
We stayed with Ed, a junior baseball player, and his family for a week. Ed was passionate about humility, faith, and community. He showed us what it looked like to put your community above your sport.
After Alabama, we drove to Austin, Texas.
In Austin we followed the Westlake High School football team. This was a team passionate about tradition and being the best. This was a team bathed in wealth, and exemplified what it looked like to be used to winning.
We also stopped in Melissa, Texas.
While still representing the heart and soul that Texas football has, Melissa High School’s Football team had a much more silent but deadly foundation to their program compared to Westlake.
